Sahaj Path: Building tomorrow in the rural Bengal
Sahaj Path is a rural preschool designed to provide complete care and education for disadvantaged populations of Bolpur, Santiniketan. The preschool was founded on 8th December 2012, and it was a dream project of Shree Jayram Naskar, who hoped to create a space where education would catalyze change. Heritage of the ideologies of simple and open design, it is aptly coined ‘Sahaj Path’ – translating to ‘easy learning’, in Bengali.
The Visionary – Shree Jay Ram Naskar
As an active social worker and an education lover, Shree Jay Ram Naskar saw the potential of primary education on the rural fringe of Santiniketan – the suburbs and rural hinterlands of Santiniketan were crying out for schools. His vision was not just to build ‘a school’ but an ‘institution’ which would also build the community, raise its compassion and dignity, and enroll skilful children from economically weaker sections. Inspired by this thought, Sahaj Path was created, which opened a new chapter in the lives of those children who usually did not have many opportunities to attend preschool.
